Material Safety Data Sheets

Material Safety Data Sheets

The Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all hazardous materials used in IDeATe are available in three-ring binders in the Fabrication Lab (Hunt A5) and Physical Computing (Hunt A10).

If you are working with an unfamiliar material, read the MSDS before you start your project. The MSDS will tell you if you need to wear any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as gloves, goggles, or a mask, when working with the material. The MSDS will also tell you the procedure to follow if you get the material on your skin or in your eyes. The Fabrication Lab has a sink and eye wash station. Read the instructions on how to operate the eye wash station before you have some chemical in your eyes.

The MSDS include all the information you need in an emergency; however, they are usually dense and difficult to understand. If it is not an emergency, call Environmental Health & Safety (8-8182) for help.

In an emergency, call Campus Police first (8-2323), then find and read the appropriate MSDS.

Carnegie Mellon Environmental Health & Safety subscribes to an online database that enables you to access the MSDS for any hazardous material used on campus, plus many others. Click on the icon below, login with your Andrew credentials, and search.
