IDeATe

Integrative Design, Arts, and Technology

What is IDeATe?

The Integrative Design, Arts and Technology Network (IDeATe) connects diverse strengths across Carnegie Mellon University to advance education, research, and creative practice in domains that merge technology and arts expertise.

IDeATe supports ten interrelated undergraduate areas, all of which can be taken as minors. The themes of these areas integrate knowledge in technology and arts: Game Design, Animation & Special Effects, Media Design, Sonic Arts, Design for Learning, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Intelligent Environments, Physical Computing, Soft Technologies, and Immersive Technologies in Arts & Culture.

The IDeATe curriculum aims to train a student to be excellent in one area of technology or arts and to be able to collaborate within diverse cohorts of technology and arts experts. To achieve this goal, IDeATe has sponsored the development of 30 new interdisciplinary technology-arts courses. These courses are focused on hands-on collaborative learning and are structured to combine students from many different disciplines. The curriculum is delivered by educators from across 15 different academic departments of Carnegie Mellon at the IDeATe collaborative making facility housed at Hunt Library.

If you are a current or perspective Carnegie Mellon student and you are interested in participating in IDeATe, read about how to enroll.
